Christian Healing
Jesus was probably best known for healing people. With no NHS and a rather hit and miss medical knowledge, the people of Jesus day seemed to appreciate the healing that He gave through word and touch and they flocked to Him for it.
Jesus sent His disciples out not just to preach and baptise but to 'teach them to do everything I have commanded you' Matthew 28v20 The church has continued that ministry for the last two thousand years in many different ways and has hopefully supported the advancement of medical practice too, after all St Luke himself was probably a doctor.
The church has always taught, as modern views on complementary therapies do, that healing our ills is far more than a plaster or stitch or the latest drugs. Disease often goes far deeper and is more complex than that. Healing properly takes in the whole gamut of Body, Mind and Spirit because they are deeply connected and co-dependant, what the Bible calls 'Soul'.
The church offers healing in many forms through prayer, worship, absolution, anointing, laying on of hands, counsel and care, and community. Through each of these means, we aim to bring God's healing power to bear on a life broken in some way.
On the last Wednesday of each month we offer a service of Holy Communion with Healing with laying on of hands and anointing with holy oil. Through this simple, quiet and informal service we share God's love and experience His healing touch.
Those who come testify to some physical healing but mostly to a healing of Mind and Spirit. We have witnessed God touch lives in different ways bringing healing and help both to those who come and to those we pray for. Please don't feel that healing is only available through the laying on of hands! Being in God's presence, hearing His Word, receiving the sacraments and being with God's people in fellowship, worship and prayer are all a means of healing.
This is a short service about 45 minutes with reflective music, prayers for those who we know are in need as well as our own vulnerabilities, there is anointing with Holy oil and includes receiving Holy Communion. We invite you come along to be bathed in God’s presence, to feel His healing touch to sooth your mind, body and soul.
Come and bathe in God's presence and feel his healing touch ...sooth your mind, body & soul
Unfortunately, this service is not taking place during the Sabbatical and Interregnum.
